The Coordinating Committee, which directs the administration of the Balcones Canyonlands Conservation Plan (BCCP) regional permit, was created by a 1995 Interlocal Agreement between the City of Austin and Travis County. The Coordinating Committee is composed of one representative from each permit-holding entity: Travis County and the City of Austin. Two representatives, one from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) and the BCCP Secretary, sit with the Coordinating Committee in an advisory, non-voting capacity. Proposals to the Coordinating Committee that require amending the Interlocal Agreement and/or the BCCP must also be submitted to the Travis County Commissioners Court, Austin City Council, and USFWS for approval.
The BCCP Coordinating Committee members include:
- City of Austin: District 7 Council Member Leslie Pool
- Travis County: Precinct 2 Commissioner Brigid Shea
The Coordinating Committee meets on a quarterly basis, but committee members may call for additional meetings.
Two advisory committees were created to support the BCCP Coordinating Committee. The Citizens Advisory Committee includes representatives from the local business community, recreational groups, conservation organizations, and City of Austin Boards and Commissions.
The Scientific Advisory Committee includes local scientific experts from fields associated with endangered species research and habitat management. Meetings of the BCCP Coordinating Committee, Citizens Advisory Committee, and Scientific Advisory Committee are open to the public and include a period for public comment.
